"The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library." - Albert Einstein

"Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities." - R. David Lankes

"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." - Cicero

"Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life. Libraries change lives for the better." - Sidney Sheldon

Since the rise of academic institutions (School, College and University), the academic libraries are playing a crucial role as the heart of the institution. The main objectives of the academic libraries as well as of the librarians is to give the right information to the right users at the right time and in the right way also to satisfy the changing need of the users. So the libraries are responsible to collect (proper document), organise (Accessioning, Cataloguing, Classification), preserve and disseminate the documents or information to the users for their study or research. Therefore the libraries perform different functions, by helping students with text-books, parallel studies, reference books and periodicals; by providing a large number of bibliographical tools and up-to-date literature on every subject for students, teachers and research scholar; as well as by maintaining an efficient reference and information service. In this way the academic libraries play a vital role in the development of the education system of the country. In this regard the Radhakrishnan Commission (1948-49) expressed that "the library is the heart of all the university's work, directly so, as regards its research work and indirectly as regards its educational work, which derives its life from research. Scientific research needs the library as well as its laboratories while for humanistic research the library is both library and the laboratory in one. Both for humanistic and scientific studies, a first class library is essential in a university."
